TDM Apprenticeship Programme Launch
26 January 2010
A new pre-apprenticeship programme created to address the skills shortage in the South African Tool, Die and Mouldmaking (TDM) sector was officially launched in Kwa-Thema and Springs. Classes opened doors for the first time in February 2010 and the programme has harnessed global best practice to ensure the right candidates are trained and properly prepared to pursue a career in the industry and boost the declining sector.

Mr. Tapiwa Samanga, Director CSP Capital Equipment and Allied Services, DTI, spoke about the government funding and endorsement of this project due to the large impact it would have on our economy, as the initiative addresses skills which are in short supply in South Africa. Students who were selected for the pilot study were in attendance at this launch and he emphasised the fact that while the government had funds for this project, it was their responsibility to make it a success.
